Sustainability & Green Building

Ziman Development builds forever homes for you, your family and generations to come.

Our actions and way of living have a profound impact on our environment. As a Homebuilder, we take responsibility by creating sustainable homes with as close to Negative Carbon Emissions as we can, providing benefits to you and your family, as well as to our Planet.

Through awareness and taking specific steps, we strive for future generations to be able to enjoy all the beauty that both Long Beach Island, and the world, has to offer.

One Tree Pledge, In Partnership with One Tree Planted:

In 2020, Ziman Development launched One Tree Pledge, in partnership with American Forests, and in 2021, we just launched a new partnership with One Tree Planted. The idea behind the initiative is to help mitigate the carbon emissions of a home’s electricity and natural gas usage by planting trees and protecting & restoring our forests.

Trees and Forests provide critical benefits to humans and wildlife and are essential to all life on the planet. By planting trees, we are taking the necessary steps to ensure a healthier ecosystem for all. Below are some facts explaining the benefits of forests:

  • 50% of drinking water in the U.S. comes from forests
  • 80% of the world’s terrestrial biodiversity lives in the forests
  • 15% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. are absorbed by forests each year
  • 2 acres of forest can provide enough oxygen for more than 500 people each year

“Our collective efforts at Ziman Development help ensure that all of our homes have as close to a negative carbon footprint as possible.

By partnering with One Tree Planted, we hope to contribute to the creation of healthy and resilient forests, wilderness that deliver essential benefits for climate, people, water and wildlife.”

– Michael Ziman

With your partnership, we can help slow climate change and allow our forests to thrive. Learn how you can help.

Partnership Goals:

By working alongside the passionate team at One Tree Planted, we can tackle climate change by planting trees to help mitigate our carbon emissions. For each new Ziman home that is built, we:

  • Help to offset carbon emissions from our homes by a factor of 3-40x
  • Plant trees that will remove 20 tons (40,000 lbs.) of CO2 per year from the atmosphere – for the next 50 years

Here's How You Can Help Us Curb the Effects of Climate Change

Take The One Tree Pledge & Plant Trees For Only $1 Per Tree

Ziman Development’s One Tree Pledge encourages all builders in any industry to commit to planting 1 tree for each SQ FT of work in a home build or renovation. The trees will continue to help mitigate the carbon emissions from the home’s use of electricity and natural gas, for as long as the trees live. Join us in creating a more sustainable future across the planet.

List of Resources Used by Ziman Development

Sustainable Products

Transportation is the largest source of carbon emissions in the United States. We do our best to buy local whenever possible, reducing the transportation footprint – and greenhouse gas emissions – as much as possible.

Lumber

We only use Lumber from companies that use sustainable practices recognized by the Sustainable Forest Initiative. These companies study their effects and counteract them in numerous ways. Our preferred Lumber supplier plants over 150 million trees annually. We buy from Werhauser Lumber and Interfore Lumber whenever possible.

Anderson Windows

Named as the first Energy Star National Window Partner of the Year in 1999 for their energy-efficient windows and patio doors, Andersen products help reduce the transfer of heat, so houses requires less energy for heating and cooling. Since the durability of Andersen products reduces maintenance, painting and the need for replacement, they help save resources and energy in the long run. Andersen Corporation was awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Partner of the Year–Sustained Excellence Award in 2020.

NuCedar

Distributed throughout the U.S. by Garden State Lumber, NuCedar’s finely crafted exterior cladding products are not just painted; they’re factory finished with a solar-reflective coating and come with a 25 year transferable warranty.

Energy Star Appliances

Energy Star is the simple choice for energy efficiency, making it easy for consumers and businesses to purchase products that save them money and protect the environment. Since 1992, Energy Star and its partners helped American families and businesses save more than 4 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity and achieve over 3.5 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas reductions, equivalent to the annual emissions of more than 750 million cars. In 2018 alone, Energy Star and its partners helped Americans avoid $35 billion in energy costs.

Tankless Hot Water Heaters

Tankless water heaters are good for the environment on many different levels. They save on energy, produce less waste and are a more efficient production, to name a few. They are specifically becoming more and more popular for that reason all around the world as people are looking for new ways to make their entire households environmentally efficient.

Nest Thermostat

Along with smart learning capabilities and humidity sensors, its built-in activity sensor detects when people are home to adjust heating accordingly, as well. Its display comes to life when someone enters the room to show temperature or time. External sensors detect temperature, allowing you to create heating zones for consistent temperatures, or to save energy in empty rooms. The Nest can also be scheduled to heat or cool in low-demand times when energy costs less.

High Efficiency HVAC with High Seer Rating and Highest Energy Star Rating

The benefit of installing an Energy Star HVAC system is more efficiency, by as much as 20%, and less dollars spent on energy costs based on how much energy is used. In order to qualify as an ENERGY STAR certified product, an HVAC system must carry a SEER rating (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) of no less than 14.5 along with an EER (Energy Efficiency Ration) of 11.0 for single models, and 12.0 for split systems.

Solar and Wind Generation Capabilities

Homeowners seeking a more sustainable energy source are often faced with two viable options: wind and solar. Both have their benefits, though much of the decision comes down to where you live. Local government regulations, wind patterns, land elevation and more all play a role in deciding whether to go in on wind or solar energy.

Via Forbes - New U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data predict solar and wind energy will dominate America’s new generation in 2020, making up 76% of new generation and adding 42 gigawatts (GW) of zero emission capacity
